Mobile Internet in SA 2014: Time of the App
"The Mobility 2014 research study, conducted by World Wide Worx with the backing of First National Bank, has shown that a growing number of South Africans are making use of mobile apps - in particular messaging apps like WhatsApp.
The app has become the single most significant tool driving the mobile economy in South Africa. The use of apps on phones has shot up from 24% of adult cellphone users in cities and towns in mid-2012 to 43% in late 2013." Continue Reading

Banking: get mobile or get left behind
"Up to 80 percent of South Africans use a cellphone, and there are more active SIM cards in the country than there are people. For many years now, more South Africans have used cellphones than desktop computers to do their banking.
Arthur Goldstuck, the managing director of World Wide Worx, says only about 30 percent of cellphone users in South Africa use a smartphone (see “Techie terms”, below).
